Member Protection

Broulee Surfers SLSC is committed to the protection, welfare and wellbeing of all members. We want everyone to be treated with respect and dignity, and to be protected from discrimination, harassment and abuse. All Club members are bound by the Surf Life Saving Member Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.

Child Safe

Surf Life Saving is committed to the safety and wellbeing of every child and young person who takes part in our activities. It is everyone’s responsibility to treat children and young people respectfully and to follow the SLSA Child Safe Policy.

All members are encouraged to complete the Child Safe Awareness online course, found in the e-learning section of the SLS Members Hub. Members in child-related roles may need a Working with Children Check. The SLSNSW requirements page explains which roles are covered and is updated each season.

Making a Complaint

Who to talk to

The Club has volunteers who look after member protection. Our Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) is the first point of contact for anyone with a concern or grievance, and can answer questions about what to do next.

  • Member Protection Information Officer: Scott Kemmis

To contact the MPIO, email [EMAIL] to arrange a call back. If you’d prefer to speak to someone outside the Club, you can contact the MPIO at your branch or any SLS MPIO.

Making a formal complaint

If you want to proceed with a formal complaint, lodge it through the online complaints portal. Formal complaints are handled by a Complaints Manager.

Reporting a child safe concern

Keeping children safe depends on people speaking up. If you see or hear something that concerns you, you can report it online. You may remain anonymous.

  1. Go to the online complaints portal and select “Child Safe Matter”.
  2. Follow the question prompts.
  3. Submit the report. It will be sent to SLSNSW for investigation.

If you believe a child is at immediate risk of harm, call Triple Zero (000).

Our Commitment

Broulee Surfers SLSC is committed to the safety and wellbeing of every child and young person who takes part in our activities, programs and events. We will work to create an environment in which children and young people are safe, and feel safe, at all times. Each season, the Club executive reviews and signs our Child Safe Commitment Statement.
