Education and training

Everyone who patrols with the Club is trained and qualified, and we’ll help you get there. Whether you’re brand new or looking for your next award, there’s a pathway for you.

Training is available to current Club members. Not a member yet? Join the Club and get started.

Training pathways

Surf Life Saving NSW groups member training into five pathways.

  • Emergency Care: resuscitation, first aid and advanced techniques for responding to medical emergencies on the beach.
  • Aquatic Rescue: the core surf rescue skills, from the Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) and Bronze Medallion through to the Silver and Gold Medallions.
  • Powercraft: IRB crew and driver, rescue water craft operator, side-by-side vehicle operator and UAV (drone) pilot.
  • Beach Management: radio operator and Silver Medallion Patrol Captain.
  • Training and Education: become an Age Manager or Age Manager Assistant with our Nippers, or train as a Training Officer.

Entry requirements, minimum ages and proficiency requirements vary by award. Course availability at Broulee changes from season to season, and some training is delivered with other clubs or through the Far South Coast Branch.

For full course descriptions and entry requirements, see SLSNSW Education Pathways.

Already patrolling?

Patrolling members complete an annual re-qualification each season. Details are on our Patrols page.

Other ways to get involved

Not everyone needs to be on the water. There are many ways to contribute to surf lifesaving, both on and off the beach, across Club roles, patrol support, surf sports and lifesaving operations. The Member Participation Pathways guide (PDF) gives an overview.
