Rod Shanahan was elected Life Member at the 2021 Annual General Meeting.

Service to the Club

Rod has been involved with Broulee Surfers SLSC for much of the Club’s history, serving as Club Patron for 20 years and as Club Treasurer from 1998 to 2001. Up until his retirement he also undertook the auditing of the Club’s financials — a task which saved the Club considerable funds.

Nick Dixon talked Rod into taking on the Treasurer’s role and he was instrumental in getting the Club operating properly on a financial footing. He oversaw the implementation of the GST, which at the time was a considerable undertaking for small community clubs.

Rod was a regular presence at the Club on Friday nights and at Club functions including AGMs and presentation nights.

Community contributions

Beyond the surf club, Rod has been a long-term contributor to the Broulee community, heavily involved in the development of Rugby Union — particularly junior rugby — through the Broulee Dolphins, Far South Coast Rugby Union and the Wombats.
