Gary Pettigrove was elected Life Member at the 2023 Annual General Meeting.

Surf Lifesaving service

Gary joined the Broulee Surfers SLSC in 1999, already a Life Member at Torquay Surf Life Saving Club having patrolled since 1974. In 1996/97 Gary was awarded the Victorian Life Saver of the Year. Gary has been a surf life saver for 50 years.

At Broulee he has been a trainer and assessor of Bronze Medallion, SRC, IRB driver and crew, and Advanced Resuscitation.

Gary has been on the Club Committee since 2000/01 in various roles including Boat Captain, Vice President and Secretary, and has been Club President since 2020.

Sporting achievements

Gary has mentored numerous crews as sweep in ten and a half George Bass Marathons. His achievements include:

  • 5 World Championship Gold Medals
  • 2 World Championship Silver Medals
  • 1 Australian Championship Silver Medal
  • 2 Australian Championship Bronze Medals
  • 3 ASRL Gold Medals
  • 2 ASRL Silver Medals
  • 3 ASRL Bronze Medals
  • Multiple medals at South Coast Boat Series and Far South Coast Branch carnivals

Community contributions

Gary founded the Hotondo Ocean Swim and was its coordinator for the first 13 years.

He is a dedicated competitor, coach and official — a worthy Life Member of Broulee Surfers SLSC.
